Philosophy/Curriculum

Albert Einstein said that “Play is the highest form of research”, and we know how smart he is!
The founder of the Legos, Ole Kirk Kristiansen understand the importance of learning through play: The name “LEGO” itself stems from the Danish phrase “leg godt,” meaning “play well,” and we all know how fun his toys are!

Our Philosophy

Play isn’t an alternative to learning. Play IS learning, and playing well is the prerequisite to all future learning. Preschool children are at a developmental age like no other in life! The first five years are when children learn how to learn!

This is the time children set a foundation and develop the skills that will shape who they become emotionally, physically, cognitively, spiritually, and socially. We believe in providing the Godt a safe, nurturing and fun environment, that allows children to be curious, explore new things, and learn by doing and creating.

Each of the many child development philosophies has a bit of treasure to offer. Given that children are so unique, and no style of learning includes every child’s learning language, we take a bit of the good stuff from each philosophy, and weave it into our program. We are a play-based program, with a curiosity approach to learning.

Academics are important. When a child feels safe to explore, make mistakes, create something new and ask questions, the necessary academic growth comes organically, in a way that makes learning fun!

Our Curriculum

We are thankful for a loving, creative, attentive God and want to celebrate that with our children and families! Our faith in God, His love for us, and His goodness is a part of play-based DNA. We have weekly chapel where the whole school comes together to sing praise songs, and hear a developmentally/age-appropriate Bible story.

In the classroom, we have prayer, songs and daily story times to go with our monthly Bible theme. Our teachers are Christians, and they love offering the hope and peace that their faith brings them, to their classroom.

Faith

Our curriculum is set up for the year as a general framework to ensure that we provide opportunities for growth in all areas of a child’s development.
Teachers observe, take notes and integrate learning opportunities around the children’s dialogue, curiosities and interests. Weekly lesson plans are written and posted by the teachers, as a guideline for what materials and activities will be provided.
